CRRC is the foremost authority of rated cool roof and exterior wall products and education . 

RoofersCoffeeShop®, the award-winning place where the industry meets for technology, information and everyday business, is pleased to welcome the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) into its community for contractors. 

The Cool Roof Rating Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that develops fair, accurate and credible methods for evaluating and labeling the radiative properties of roofing and exterior wall products.  

The CRRC provides the industry with invaluable free online databases, the CRRC Rated Roof Products Directory and Rated Wall Products Directory, that can be used to identify products that comply with various building codes, financial incentives, and voluntary green building programs that require or promote the use of solar-reflective building materials (see here for list). The CRRC Roof Directory currently lists over 3,000 roofing products and is the only database of its kind in the U.S. since the sunset of the US EPA ENERGY STAR program for roofing products in June 2022. The Wall Directory recently launched in early September 2022 and will grow as more products achieve CRRC ratings.   

The CRRC also provides education to the public on how cool roofs and cool exterior walls can help improve building performance, increase occupant comfort, mitigate the urban heat island effect, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Undeniably, the CRRC is a huge part of the public and contractors’ understanding the roof and wall’s impact on building energy use, occupant comfort and the surrounding environment, as well as making moves towards more sustainable solutions. 

The mission of the CRRC is: 

• To implement and communicate fair, accurate and credible radiative energy performance rating systems for roof and wall surfaces. 

• To support research into energy related radiative properties of roof and wall surfaces, including durability of those properties. 

• To provide education and objective support to parties interested in understanding and comparing various product options. 

The CRRC is a recognized informational resource for reducing the urban heat island effect, increasing building energy efficiency, improving occupant comfort, and mitigating the global climate effects of greenhouse gas emissions.

The CRRC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 1998 to develop accurate and credible methods for evaluating and labeling the radiative properties of roofing products, and to disseminate the information to all interested parties.
