Roofer Chicks Are Changing The World

How this New Braunfels-based roofing company is changing the roofing industry with their inclusive practices and quality workmanship. 

Roofer Chicks® has been serving the New Braunfels area for over 15 years and in that time, they have made quite a name for themselves. For seven years in a row now, the contracting company has won the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung award for Best Roofing Contractor. They are also a GAF Master Elite contractor in residential and commercial roofing, a title that is not easily obtained.  

This incredible contracting company is owned by Ami Feller who has been involved in the roofing industry for decades. She began her career in the roofing industry when she was in college by joining a roofing crew alongside her brother, Scott. From there, they both formed their roofing company, which was previously called “Feller Builders”.  

Add in a recession and a few life changes, Ami says that they eventually started their business over in 2016 by rebranding as “Roofer Chicks.” Today, they have a workforce that’s 75% female and Ami says they are especially focused on helping single mothers and women looking for a change of pace in their careers.  

“I was a single mom, and I think as women we tend to feel like we’re stuck in situations we don’t have to be stuck in,” Ami said to Community Impact Storytelling. “Women feel that way because they don’t have the experience or education or confidence. This industry is easy to enter, and it’s lucrative.” 

Roofer Chicks also has an impressive set of credentials to their name. As stated previously, they are a GAF Master Elite contractor, a title only 2% of roofers in North America have. This means that they are properly insured and licensed, trustworthy and highly qualified to install GAF products. They are also a member of the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT), which, according to Ami, means they “are licensed in a state that doesn’t require licensing.” 

“I love, love, love being up on rooftops. I love how you can see the whole world,” Ami writes. “I also love my customers – I love meeting new people and giving them an amazing customer service experience... and I love empowering other women to succeed.”
