In an era of increasingly severe weather, homeowners and contractors are turning to Fortified building solutions to safeguard their investments. The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) launched the Fortified Building Program to help meet this demand, setting a high bar for construction and roofing products designed to withstand storm damage. MFM Building Products has announced an agreementwith the program, offering a suite of products that meet or exceed these rigorous standards.
For homeowners, the benefits of using Fortified-approved materials extend beyond enhanced protection. Building or repairing with these products can lead to insurance premium discounts, financial recoupments following storm damage and other state-specific incentives. These incentives are available for residential, commercial and multi-family constructions, providing a broad appeal across various property types.
MFM has secured a Trademark Licensing Agreement with the Fortified Building Program, signifying that their products have passed independent, third-party testing and comply with Fortified’s stringent standards. The products covered under this agreement include:
“We are proud to offer these products to distributors across the nation to assist builders and homeowners in taking advantage of the Fortified incentives, if applicable in their area,” an MFM representative stated.
IBHS engineers have designed their testing facilities to replicate the devastating effects of severe weather. They can subject homes to tornado-strength winds generated by 105 giant fans, simulate hurricanes and hailstorms with a half-million gallons of water or ice and thus identify common vulnerabilities in standard construction practices. This research underpins the Fortified standards, ensuring that approved materials can genuinely withstand nature’s fury.
The Fortified Building Program is active in numerous states, including Alabama, Florida, Texas and North Carolina, among others. Homeowners and contractors in these regions can access approved construction standards, trained contractors and verified materials, creating a robust framework for building storm-resistant structures.
MFM’s collaboration with the Fortified Building Program marks a significant step towards enhancing the durability and resilience of buildings nationwide. By offering products that meet stringent safety standards, they are helping to protect investments and lives from the increasing threat of severe weather. This initiative not only promotes safer building practices but also provides tangible financial incentives, making it an attractive proposition for all stakeholders in the construction industry.
