Register a RoofPro Job and Get Free Training From the Pros

Sika free training deal
September 24, 2022 at 6:00 a.m.

By Karen L. Edwards.

Getting into liquid-applied membrane application is easier than ever with training from Sika.

The liquid-applied membrane market has been growing steadily over the years but has really taken off with contractors and building owners looking for other options while the industry experiences supply chain challenges. For contractors who want to be able to offer this as an option to their customers, Sika is helping them learn the ropes.

Sika Technical Manager David Axt explained the training reviews the processes for installation and more importantly, the substrate preparation. “Once we have the substrate preparation done, then we'll review our primer applications, curing times, restrictions on overcoat time windows, and then we'll review the application of the actual roofing membrane itself.”

Sika offers RoofCoat and RoofPro systems with the latter requiring more technical knowledge behind the installation. “On the RoofPro side of things it's a fully reinforced membrane system that we're offering no dollar limit warranties on, we're a lot more critical about how it's being installed. Because now we're covering labor, material and the contractor’s workmanship.”

"When it comes to a RoofPro system there is an applicator agreement that needs to be in place with Sika Corporation," explained David. “The warranty registration form is filled out at the beginning of the project and submitted so that we know what type of warranty they're asking for. We make sure that the system they're installing will meet the desired warranty type.”

Training must be scheduled ahead of time and David said that demand is strong, with his team being scheduled out months in advance. Training is often done at the contractor’s shop, sometimes with a mockup of the roof for hands on participation. Depending on the type of job and size of the job a technical trainer could be onsite as the installation gets started to ensure everyone is comfortable and knowledgeable about the application.

The company also offers training videos and other information on their website that contractors can access to learn more about installing liquid-applied membrane systems.
