Raise morale and efficiency with purposeful training

RCS Influencer Patrick Cochran - Raise morale and efficiency with purposeful training
May 29, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.

RCS Influencer Patrick Cochran says cross training is summed up in two words: development and collaboration.

Cross training is a great way to develop staff and have them work together and collaborate. Our company has put a focus on crossing training over the last year or so and have started to see great results.

Having employees learn other roles allows us to stay on task and not get behind when someone is sick or on vacation. Our staff can take time off knowing that they will not have a pile of tasks no one could keep current while they were out of the office.

Cross training also allows our staff to step in and help when one position gets very busy during a certain time of year or if the business picks up. It also helps build a comradary within and between the departments.

We have employees cross train to gain new skills and allow them to grow and develop. Some of this training has allowed us to promote from within or move people into other departments that they had skills for.

If I had to really sum it up in two words it would be development and collaboration. Which are both key to building a strong and positive company culture and a way to keep employee morale high.

This encourages team work, and when the team works together it creates strong relationships between departments as well. Sometimes in this industry, there can be an “us vs them” mentality between departments and a “that’s not my job” mindset. Which ultimately creates issues between the team and eventually starts to effect morale and potentially customer service.

As we have started to cross train, we have watched the team grow together and collaborate more which ultimately has strengthened our company as a whole.
