Quality Roofing team member Kyle Tisdell joined the nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace earlier this year. “It started with a phone call from one of my friends. He asked if I’d like to deliver beds, so me and my whole family went,” Kyle told OnFocus. “We delivered five beds that day between Spencer and Marshfield.”
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a nonprofit that builds and delivers beds to children who don't have beds to sleep in. On “build day,” volunteers make the bed pieces that will later be assembled at the children’s house.
When Kyle learned that the nonprofit was running low on parts and wouldn’t be able to build more beds due to cold weather, he knew he had to do something. He went to Quality Roofing owners Mark and Pat Begotka and asked if they would lend their mechanic shop space for an indoor build day.
“They didn’t even hesitate,” said Kyle. With the go ahead from Quality Roofing, Kyle and his family coordinated with the director of the Spencer Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace to prepare the build day. With help from Spencer UMC, Curtiss Lions Club and Corporate Lowe’s, along with CRC lumber, who provided lumber at a great price, volunteers were able to assemble the beds by build day.
Raw material entered the volunteer assembly line, and left cut, sanded, drilled and stained ready to be loaded into the trailer. “It was a really neat process to see,” said Kyle. “Just coming from raw lumber, 2×6’s and 2×4’s, and ending up as beds.”
27 beds were built by the end of the three hours build time, ready to be delivered to local children.
The charity is a nonprofit organization, serving those in need within 30 miles of Spencer. “It’s something that just helps people,” said Kyle. “The look on a kid’s face when they walk in and see their bed for the first time, it’s amazing.”
