Passing with flying colors: SlopeShield Plus SA

VaproShield - Passing with flying colors
January 25, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.

By Emma Peterson.

Learn how this innovative membrane is passing tests in the labs and the field, proving itself as a high-performance moisture management solution.

VaproShield has spent the last two decades designing high-performance, vapor permeable but water resistive membrane solutions to moisture intrusion in the building envelope. In that time, they have established themselves as a leader whose products meet or exceed every standard in the industry. From NFPA 285 assembly tests to ASTM E2357 and E84 compliances, their membranes continue to elevate the commercial roofing industry. To talk about this in more detail, Karen Edwards sat down with Dan Clancy, one of VaproShield’s regional sales managers, for an episode of Roofing Road Trips®.

In the conversation, Dan highlighted VaproShield’s SlopeShield® Plus SA. This product is a game-changing membrane designed to integrate seamlessly into the roofing assembly. Not only does it shield the assembly from precipitation, but it also allows trapped water vapor to escape at the same time. Dan gave an example of how this might work, saying, “Let’s say you lay concrete, whether structural concrete, lightweight structural concrete, lightweight insulating concrete, our general rule of thumb per the data sheet is that SlopeShield can have it dry five days after concrete is poured.”

This is a game-changing timeline for contractors working in the field. Dan shared some of the feedback they have been receiving, saying, “At large, it's been really positive. Sometimes there's a learning curve.  But overall feedback has been really positive, specifically from contractors. A lot of people have referred to it as a game changer for the simple reason, like we covered earlier, going over existing materials.”

And it’s not just the contractors in the field who are recognizing the power of this product. Dan explained how they are continuing their history of meeting and/or exceeding industry standards, saying, “We have a full portfolio of testing code approvals, Florida product approvals. Anyone in roofing knows, if it passes muster in Florida, it's good most everywhere else. We've definitely spent a lot of time and resources to get those approvals.”
