During the 2023 International Roofing Expo (IRE) from March 7-9 in Dallas, Texas, Owens Corning will showcase high-performing shingles for all seasons, beautiful new color pairings, and business services to help drive contractors’ growth.
Visitors to the Owens Corning booth (#4111) can participate in hands-on demonstrations showing the strength and wind resistance of Owens Corning shingles, vote for their favorite new shingle color, and learn about a new recycling pilot to help reduce landfill waste. Honoring the strong contributions of Hispanic contractors to America’s roofing sector, booth messaging will be presented in Spanish as well as English.
Highlights of Owens Corning’s exhibit at the 2023 International Roofing Expo include:
Across the continental U.S., every season brings intense weather conditions, including high winds. The nailing zone area plays a critical role in keeping shingles on the roof. All shingles in the Owens Corning® Duration® Series come with a 130-mph wind resistance limited warranty and feature patented SureNail® Technology with a 200 percent wider common bond area. As the ultimate authorities on shingle performance, nine out of 10 contractors agree that shingles are more securely fastened when nailed through a common bond in the nailing zone1.
Owens Corning Oakridge® Shingles deliver up to two times better nail pull-through resistance, up to seven times better nail blow-through resistance, and up to one-and-a-half times better delamination resistance versus the top two competitors. Increasing performance even further, a triple layer of reinforcement in the nailing zone on Duration® Series shingles offers up to two-and-a-half times better nail pull-through resistance, up to nine times better nail blow-through resistance, and up to two times better delamination resistance versus the top two competitors2.
TruDefinition® Duration FLEX® shingles are manufactured to defend against rain, wind, and hail for proven performance in every season. Featuring the highest impact rating — UL 2218 Class 4 — Duration FLEX® shingles are made with a proprietary blend of styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) polymer modified asphalt that delivers a rubberizing effect to support flexibility and toughness, even under intense storm conditions.
Owens Corning will also shine a light on how TruDefinition® Duration® and Oakridge® shingles performed during hurricane Ian with stories from homeowners demonstrating how their roofs withstood the storm.
Safeguarding the longevity of beautiful roofs, Owens Corning has recently extended the algae resistance warranty on most of its laminate shingles with StreakGuard™ Algae Protection, including Oakridge® Series, Duration® Series, Berkshire®, Woodcrest® and Woodmore® shingles and all Owens Corning hip and ridge product lines. The warranty uses a system approach that pairs shingle technology with hip and ridge components to help protect roofs against stains and streaks caused by blue-green algae for up to 25 years.
Since introducing the Shingle Color of the Year in 2017, Owens Corning has led the industry conversation when it comes to roofing and exterior color. The 2023 Shingle Color of the Year, Midnight Plum, is part of a newly updated shingle color portfolio on the Duration® Shingle platform. Additional colors recently added to the TruDefinition® Duration® product line include Peppercorn, Williamsburg Gray, and Desert Rose. A color wall at IRE allows visitors to vote for their favorite shingle color and showcases a new style board for design inspiration with Midnight Plum shingles.
New for contractors in 2023, the Owens Corning Tech Stack is a curated suite of business resources designed to help customers scale and grow their business. The Tech Stack connects contractors to our business service partners spanning every segment of the business eco-system including lead management, sales presentations, measurement, inspections and more.
Other business-building features highlighted in the booth include more detail on the tools, resources, and programs under the Owens Corning University (OCU) umbrella.
Recent changes to shingle packaging support installers working on the job site. Owens Corning has replaced instructions printed on the shingle wrap with an easy-to-access QR code. The change enables installers to conveniently access instructions in English or Spanish from their phone.
During IRE, contractors can learn about Owens Corning’s efforts to become a net positive company. One example is a shingle recycling pilot that aims to divert two million tons of shingles annually from landfills by 2030. Using proprietary technologies, the pilot is assessing ways to recycle shingles for use in the production of new shingles.
As a high-performing roof relies on a system of components, the Owens Corning booth will feature various components that work together to achieve a Total Protection Roofing System®, including DeckDefense® and ProArmor® synthetic underlayments.
Remarking on the contractor experience presented at IRE 2023, Owens Corning Roofing President Gunner Smith says, “Across North America, contractors and their teams are at the center of our efforts. The Owens Corning IRE experience is all about providing contractors with information, materials, resources, and tools to achieve high-performing results.”
