The Manufacturing Leadership Council, a division of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), recognized Owens Corning as a finalist in the 2023 Manufacturing Leadership Awards at the organization’s annual awards gala held in late June.
Owens Corning was honored for its work to advance operational efficiencies in its roofing plants through the implementation of digital tools to monitor process and asset health from any location. According to the Manufacturing Leadership Council, finalist recognition indicates that the project is among industry’s most innovative and noteworthy as selected by a distinguished panel of judges.
In addition to robust monitoring capabilities, the project, titled “Transforming Operational Capabilities with Superior Remote Support,” also enables a regional support model where employees monitoring systems remotely can recommend solutions to each plant to improve processes and prioritization. Advanced technology such as smart glasses software and point cloud cameras were deployed to make this possible. The technology solutions allow the remote users to virtually walk the plants and assess equipment positioning and safety opportunities.
“Owens Corning is focused on safety and efficiency, and we have a continuous drive to provide excellent service to our customers,” said Gunner Smith, Owens Corning Roofing President. “This technology solution illustrates how innovation can help promote long-term sustainable improvements in our plants. We’re very proud to be recognized externally for this effort.”
