The short answer to whether we order products online is yes. We have been ordering material using whatever online access our suppliers make available to us for a long time. Being able to process, track and confirm status of orders online is a fantastic productivity tool.
We have always enjoyed human interaction with our suppliers’ counter staff but for our project coordinators to be able to process an order when it is the best time for them is by far the most efficient way to go.
We enjoy being able to receive updates in real time, some of our suppliers provide photos of jobs before and after delivery is made, they may be doing this to protect themselves but we see it as a win-win scenario. We know the materials were delivered as promised and left where they were supposed to be.
When our project coordinators can receive invoices soon after the delivery is made and enter accurate data into job costing and move things forward to accounting for updating accounts payable everything can be up to date the same day things are delivered. This makes for a very smooth, efficient, touch-it-once process.
We have been working for a very long time to use whatever tools we can to be as efficient as we can for everyone involved in the materials ordering process. And ordering online adds to that goal of touch-it-once and move along. We look for vendors and suppliers that will support our vision so that we can work together to create an environment is easy for all.
Most of your suppliers offer online ordering from just about any platform – computer, tablet or smartphone. Not only is it a great productivity tool, but it’s a smart choice during these times as we try to limit interaction with others.
