The more we can promote women in the roofing industry, the better. Recently, National Women in Roofing member Kendall Ekerson of Columbia Roofing & Sheet Metal received a mention in the Portland Business Journal for her efforts in starting the first Oregon Council.
The Journal writes:
Kendall Ekerson, Columbia Roofing & Sheet Metal's marketing and business development manager, has organized the first National Women in Roofing Oregon chapter. The efforts will gather and support women in the roofing industry..
“Clearly 40 percent of the industry management and ownership is by women," said Mark Carpenter, Ekerson's father and Columbia's CEO, in a release. "Often overlooked in the industry as a traditional male dominated industry, women play an important part of the industry. We are proud of her stepping forward to meet this challenge and promoting women in our industry.”
The group is meeting monthly and already counts 25 members.
“I love my job and working alongside my dad," Ekerson said. "I am fortunate to work in an industry that is evolving and welcoming women in a once predominantly male-dominated field.”
