Northwest Roofers Continuing Education on Malarkey Products, Gain Installation Insights

Malarkey NWTraining Expo
April 20, 2017 at 9:24 a.m.

More than 50 contractors attended the two-day training event to see product demonstrations and learn about the newest technologies.

Continuing education is an important aspect to any career field, and roofing is no exception. Workers in the trades have to maintain OSHA requirements, equipment certifications, and many other educational responsibilities. Malarkey recognizes the need to keep contractors up-to-date with new product knowledge and installation instructions.

To share these notes and help ensure that projects go smoothly, Malarkey recently hosted more than 50 contractors for a two-day training event in Olympia, Washington. The Malarkey Northwest sales and technical services teams from Portland, Oregon led the event for local contractors in the area. The Northwest Training Expo was co-hosted with 3M and was additionally supported by sponsors Metal Era, Georgia-Pacific Gypsum (DensDeck), and Hunter Panels. Presentations were given by several of these partnering sponsors to further increase the educational benefits for attendees. Roofer’s Coffee Shop’s own, Heidi Ellsworth, also gave valuable insights for roofing contractors to promote and market their business.

Valuable product install demonstrations for steep and low slope roofs were held on each day of the expo. Highlighting the new polymer modified asphalt shingle innovations in the steep slope Legacy® XL and Windsor® XL shingle lines, Malarkey Technical Services Manager, Matthew Felt displayed shingle installation tips. The company’s new synthetic underlayment, SecureStart™ Plus and SmartStart® spilt starter were shared as part of the residential roof system. For low slope roof installations, the team demonstrated the OmniSealä fully self-adhered 3-ply system application. Then later, a torch down demonstration of Malarkey’s Paragon® TG line was explained by a CERTA certified trainer. The low slope system demonstration concluded with the EZ Sealä line, Malarkey’s fast curing, PMMA.

Asphalt expert and Senior Vice President, Greg Malarkey, additionally shared exciting developments in the company’s Nexgen® polymer modified asphalt technology. The story of Nexgen begins with sustainability and illuminates the fact that not all asphalt is the same. Nexgenä is Malarkey’s conscious effort to include quality reclaimed content in polymer modified asphalt and yields a flexible, impact resistant shingle for all seasons and climates.

Within the roofing industry, Malarkey is constantly innovating. Keeping contractors educated on what is available for them in the field is a top priority. With over 50 contractors in attendance, each participant walked away new experiences, education, and excitement for what’s available to them to help grow their business. The company looks forward to holding similar events in more regions later this year.
