New Outlooks for Future Integration and Diverse Cooperation

USG new outlooks
June 6, 2023 at 12:00 p.m.

By Yvette Cruz.

Having diversity and differing perspectives in the workplace can help attract the next generation.

Having diversity in the workplace helps bring new perspectives and shows us ways to improve. In industries like roofing and construction, it can be intimidating as a woman to get involved but even more so when you’re young or new to a business and have little professional experience. Heidi J. Ellsworth connects with Danielle Pack from USG Securock® and Dawn Holsinger of Delta Rep Group to talk about inclusion and retention in the roofing industry in this episode of Roofing Road Trips

There is still the stigma of construction and roofing being a “man’s” job, but Danielle had nothing but positive feedback about USG’s working environment. “USG as a whole is pretty amazing in the sense that they are committed to a culture that is one of diversity and inclusion and understanding. All of those.” She continues, “When you look at us, diversity is one of our core values. They really try to promote it all the time, and inclusion is equally as important as diversity. They take the viewpoint that having different people and different backgrounds and all of us working together all the time is what brings the innovative thoughts and perspectives to our jobs on a daily basis.”

Over the last decade, USG has doubled the number of women in their field and really focuses on leadership positions. It’s a constant practice. It’s trying different recruiting efforts and employee resources group. Companies who invest in their workers have their efforts reciprocated and invested back into them.

Dawn recites that it’s more than just women in the industry, “It kind of goes back to that making sure that people are included.” Having a new generation entering the workforce, they are looking to be valued and involved in the community. This next generation will be the ones who come in with fresh eyes and solve problems in new and creative ways. Dawn believes, “We have to be diverse, because there's so many roles and jobs across the board that you don't want them to feel like they don't belong there either, so it really goes to that making everyone feel included.”
