The Chicago Roofing Contractors Association (CRCA) shared the latest events, member benefits, and association highlights in their most recent newsletter for fall 2019.
The CRCA contracts and insurance committee launched a new program. Contract, Coverage, and Crafts are short seminars filled with helpful information concerning “demystifying various insurance and legal issues that your company may encounter, all while enjoying craft beers!” according to the newsletter. The October meetup took place at Lagunita’s Brewery and Trent Cotney, CEO of Cotney Construction Law, a CRCA Associate Member firm, presented on construction contracts. The newsletter explains, “...this seminar focused on the critical construction contract provisions: indemnification, scope of work, payment, damage limitations and dispute resolution.”
And now CRCA members will have access to a new member benefit. CRCA is partnering with Cotney Construction Law to provide members with “...15 minutes of free legal advice a month and review of applicator agreements. CRCA Members will also receive a discount if they opt into one of Cotney’s subscription plans,” as explained in the newsletter.
You won’t want to miss the January 2020 CRCA Trade Show and Seminars. Mark Graham, Vice President of technical services for the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) is partnering with CRCA to share important information regarding existing buildings and new construction.
With the trade show rapidly approaching, CRCA is offering a Mentoring/Branding/Networking Integration seminar. According to the CRCA, the purpose of the seminar is to, “...bring the lessons of the quarterly workshops together as a foundation for career growth in the roofing industry.” They are also offering one-on-one coaching sessions to participants who complete a strength/competency assessment. Mentors and mentees will receive a summary report of strengths and recommendations for professional development.
The Gerald H. Jones Code Official of the Year Award was presented to Commissioner Judy Frydland at the International Code Council’s (ICC) annual conference. She was awarded for her contributions to the overhaul of the City of Chicago Building Code. “This is awarded to the individual whose contributions advance the code enforcement profession and the Code Council’s mission,” as mentioned in the newsletter.
CRCA is eager for people to volunteer and be a part of a CRCA Committee. Each year they host Committee Day, which is an opportunity for all of the committees to be together and plan for the next year. In order to get involved, check out all of the CRCA Committee options and email info@crca.org with your top 3-5 choices. You could help plan the next Contract, Coverage, and Crafts night!
The CRCA has been busy this season. This is only a glimpse of everything they have been doing in the past few months, and there’s even more to come. Between new member benefits, educational seminars and events, and opportunities to get involved, the CRCA has a lot to offer.
