NERCA - Massachusetts Update

March 24, 2020 at 11:49 p.m.

Editors note: The following is an announcement from NERCA.

HI Everyone,

In Massachusetts, Governor Baker has issued an emergency order directing all non-essential businesses to close their physical workplaces to employees from March 24 to April 7.

However, construction is listed as an Covid-19 Essential Service under “OTHER COMMUNITY-BASED ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS” stating, “Construction Workers who support the construction, operation, inspection, and maintenance of construction sites and construction projects (including housing construction)".

This is in line with many other states which have similarly exempted construction from any shutdowns, including Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.

John Ferrante
Director of Government and Industry Relations
North/East Roofing Contractors Association
