METALCON Announces Veterans Leadsership Program as 2019 Charity

While we may not be highlighting a magnificent building today in Magnificent Metal Monday, what could be more magnificent than raising awareness and funds for a good cause?

Continuing METALCON’s 20-year history of “giving back,” we are delighted to announce that this year’s fundraising efforts will go toward the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania (VLP), a 501c(3) veteran-centric nonprofit organization headquartered in our host city of Pittsburgh.

VLP’s mission is to empower veterans to navigate life’s transitions. Founded in 1982 as the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania, Inc., VLP was born of the socioeconomic crisis created by the collapse of the steel industry throughout Western Pennsylvania.

Today, Veterans Leadership Program operates a variety of programs to fulfill its mission of providing essential housing, employment, and vital support services to eligible local veterans, service members, and their families. The program’s goals are to improve the veterans’ self-sufficiency, sustainability, and quality of life. VLP is committed to ending veteran homelessness and offers eligible veterans’ various types of housing assistance by tirelessly working with community partners, federal, state, and local governments to reach that end.
