Every year, outstanding employees are nominated by their coworkers for the Roofing Alliance’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award program. This award recognizes and celebrates workers in two categories: 1) Workers who exemplify dedication to their work, employees, and company; demonstrate a strong work ethic; and practice excellent leadership, initiative, and resourcefulness. 2) Workers who show compassion for others outside the workplace and volunteer their time with their communities, churches, families, and friends. MVPs are dedicated to their work and to helping others, going above and beyond to get the job done and ensure everyone feels valued for what they do. Five winners were selected for the 2019 Roofing Alliance MVP Awards. At RoofersCoffeeShop® we live by our motto of Roofing Respect® and wanted to highlight all of the MVP award winners. Keep reading to understand how these devoted individuals add value to their workplace and contribute to the world around them.
A former Loadmaster on C-130’s in the United States Air Force is now a Superintendent and Assessment Specialist for Reliant Roofing Inc. He’s the go-to guy when employees feel stressed, have questions, need a complicated calculation done, or just need a good laugh. With a passion for the roofing industry, Drew has made a name for himself tackling some of the largest roofing projects Reliant has taken on.
Drew works out in the field surveying every roof Reliant takes on and provides guidance and blueprints for the roof replacement or repair. Adrienne Menzies, Direct of Public Relations for Reliant wrote in Drew’s nomination, “His role is incredibly vital to our company because he specializes in assessing the physical aspects of every roofing project, then provides the roof replacement layout for the crews. Drew supports the implementation of all of our roofing projects by both providing technical advice and guidance, and by being involved in the relevant processes prior, during and subsequent to the roof replacement or repair.”
This dedicated employee goes above and beyond his job title. Described by many as, “the definition of a teamplayer,” Drew is there for everyone. He starts early and works late if it means helping out a fellow coworker or picking up slack on jobs. Morgan Credeur, Client Coordinator for Reliant, shared, “He is always more than willing to help employees and clients when it’s needed. If you need help in the field on a tough assignment, he’s there. If the office staff has questions, he makes himself available to answer their questions.” Sean Shapiro, CEO and owner of Reliant expresses his gratitude for Drew’s hard work, stating, “Drew Thomas is such a valuable asset to my company. He is a pivotal reason as to why our team is able to stay on track and on target to meet goals. Without his willingness to step up, despite challenges or lack of staff, and persist in keeping the company on track, we could certainly have strayed off course at different times.” Even if the work doesn’t fall under his job description, he is always eager to assist.
Drew really shines with his impressive calculations and detailed notes. He is methodical and thorough with his work, inspecting every aspect of a roof, the physical structure, and his calculations. Adrienne Menzies explains that, “His drafting and mathematical skills save us time and cut massive product costs...We have used digital roof calculation softwares in the past that have failed. But Drew’s drafting and mathematical skills are tried and true.” Drew eagerly works through any challenge that comes his way and is a master at creatively problem solving when issues with clients or a job arise.
With a constant smile on his face, Drew is an invaluable asset to Reliant Roofing. Whether he’s working through long calculations, answering a coworkers question, or educating himself on a new job, Drew does what he can to make the company and employees thrive. Sean Shapiro shared, “I wish I could clone him and fill the field with 1,000 Drews! I have no doubt that he’ll continue to create outstanding work.”
