One of our most popular giveaways is sponsored by Gibraltar Building Accessories as part of their ‘Construction Solutions’ campaign designed to supply feedback from contractors to help them continue to innovate. We think it’s popular because it is so easy to participate. Simply answer one simple question and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a prize. If selected as the winner, you’ll get your choice of a free pizza, an RCS Box of Love or a box of donuts.
I had the chance to chat with John Woolston, owner of Montgomery Winslow Roofing in Fort Myers, Florida and a recent Answer Me This! winner of an RCS Box of Love. John has been in roofing his entire life telling me, “I was born into roofing.” His father started a roofing business in the early 1950s and John began working in the family business in 1976.
John truly loves roofing, writing on his website, “My dad was a roofer, and when I was a kid, I couldn't wait to get home from school so I could ride with him to give estimates or check on jobsites. I can honestly say that I LOVE roofing. To me, a roof is like a canvas - there's an art to it.”
After about 15 years in the business, John decided he wanted a change of scenery from western New York state so in 1990 he moved to Fort Myers, Florida and bought Montgomery Winslow Roofing. His company does a mix of commercial and residential work. What John likes best about roofing is that he gets to work outside and every job is different. While he’s not on a crew anymore, he does enjoy going out into the field to supervise.
As for RoofersCoffeeShop®, John said, “I look at it frequently and read every email that I get.” While he hasn’t signed up yet to participate in the RCS Forum, John still enjoys reading what others have to say. He also appreciates staying up to date with what is going on in the industry.
