At RoofersCoffeeShop®, we love giveaways! We also love fun prizes and this giveaway won’t disappoint. One of our latest giveaways is sponsored by Gibraltar Building Accessories as part of their ‘Construction Solutions’ campaign designed to supply feedback from contractors to help them continue to innovate.
Contractors answer one simple question and are entered into a drawing for a prize which is a choice of a free pizza, an RCS Box of Love or a box of donuts. One of our recent winners was Jennifer Wrightson who works as a project manager at Greenwood Industries Inc., a commercial roofing contractor in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Jennifer and I had the chance to talk on the phone and she shared her roofing story with me. “I’ve always worked in the construction industry,” said Jennifer. “I started in 2003 as a CAD drafter and eventually moved into project management.”
After a few years in general construction, Jennifer was looking for ways to grow her career and she made the move into precast concrete. She loved working there but when the recession hit, she was laid off. “While I was looking for work, I found a roofing company near me that was hiring, so I applied,” Jennifer said. “I didn’t know a lot about roofing systems, but I was quickly immersed in it. At the time I started as a submittals coordinator, then very quickly moved into estimating and project management.”
She joined the Greenwood Industries family in January of 2020 as their first female project manager. This led us to talk about National Women in Roofing and I learned that Jennifer was an NWIR scholarship recipient in 2018 to attend National Women in Roofing Day and the International Roofing Expo (IRE) in Nashville.
It was at the IRE that Jennifer learned more about RoofersCoffeeShop after stopping by our booth. “I had seen an ad on a NRCA page, but it wasn’t until I was at the IRE that I talked to everyone to see what they are about,” explained Jennifer. “I like when people send in different pictures of what they are working on and seeing others give input on details if someone doesn’t know what to do. I get to see different types of roofs that I probably wouldn’t be working on in Massachusetts.”
When Jennifer is not managing projects for Greenwood Industries, she says that her three dogs keep her very busy. You also might find her out hiking, riding her mountain bike or simply relaxing beside a fire.
