Meet A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply’s President Nick Pollizzi

nick-pollizzi
December 15, 2016 at 4:46 a.m.

Get to know one of the roofing industry's leaders

What is your position within your company? I am president of A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply Inc., Aurora, IL.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for world-class golfing and fishing

What is the most unusual roofing project of which you have been a part? Bethel Baptist Church, Schaumburg, Ill.—our men used mountain climbing gear to install a metal deck on the church's dome that is 60 feet in the air.

Why did you become involved in the roofing industry? My dad started our company in 1970, and I've been working there as long as I've been able to work. I've worked in the drafting department, as part of the field crew, and have sold and shipped millions of square feet of metal to furnish and install jobs.

What was your first roofing experience? I spent one summer hanging from a rolling scaffold on a siding job—the old timers sent the young kids where they didn't want to be.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Hockey player or lawyer

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? To be invisible—haven't you ever wanted to be a fly on a wall?

What are your best and worst habits? My best habit is exercising regularly. My worst habit is being a "chocoholic."

Who's your hero? My dad

What's the most exciting/adventurous thing you've done? Deep-sea fishing in the Sea of Cortez

What is your favorite part of your job? Promoting the personal growth and well-being of our employees and their families

What do you consider a waste of time? Not following up on a proposal

What is a motto you live by? Don't let people or circumstances get in the way of living your dreams!

If you could invite any three people to dinner (dead or alive), whom would you invite? Why? I would invite Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr. and Lee Iacocca—against all odds, they always had the interests of the people in mind.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job? Hiring the right people

What are your favorite items on your desk? My wedding picture, a model replica of our boat and a radio

What is your fondest childhood memory? My dad freezing our backyard and making it into a skating rink

What's your favorite book? Talent is Overrated by Geoff Colvin

What animal would you say best matches your personality? A German shepherd
