In pursuit of providing the general public and post-frame construction professionals with the opportunities to access informational content, the National Frame Building Association (NFBA) has created a series of free educational webinars. Their ongoing series, the Post-Frame Advantage Online University, aims to provide a comprehensive look at the basics of post-frame construction for participants.
In October of 2023, the NFBA hosted an educational webinar in this series titled, “Architectural Alternatives for Post-Frame Building Systems.” Led by University of Missouri Professor Joseph Zulovich, PhD., this webinar highlighted the basic structural features of post-frame building solutions, provided an overview of code compliances and demonstrated the energy efficiency and sustainability of post-frame building systems.
Participants learned the basic approach to designing post-frame building system foundations and the options for pictorial alternative designs, such as continuous RC foundation walls, isolated post/pier foundations and thickened edge of concrete slabs. Another topic discussed was wood sidewall columns and the terminology commonly associated with them. Participants also had the opportunity to dive into an overview of precast reinforced concrete pier foundations and what they look like in practice.
From walking through diagrams of various design styles to an introduction to a downloadable digital post-frame construction guide full of technical resources, this webinar covers it all! For those who missed the webinar, don’t fret, as it can be easily accessed and viewed on the NFBA website!
