By Polyglass.

Elastoflex™ Self-Adhered modified bitumen roofing membranes provide durability and stability for Triton’s Trumpet Condominiums.

In August 2020, Triton’s Trumpet Condominiums in Maryland was in serious need of a new roof after theirs had been damaged due severe weather storms. They contacted F.A. Taylor & Son to complete the roof replacement, a company with over 80 years of experience in the roofing and sheet metal industry. To repair the damaged roof, the contractor chose Polyglass Elastoflex™ Polar premium modified bitumen roofing membranes for the job.

Project needs and challenges

Located in Ocean City, Maryland, Triton’s Trumpet is a resort-style condominium complex located by the beach, highly popular for vacation rentals. When Tropical Storm Isaias hit the area on August 4, 2020, the storm blew off half the roof of one building and significantly damaged the roof of another.

After assessing the damage, F. A. Taylor & Son determined that both damaged buildings required a complete roof replacement. They quickly installed temporary repairs to seal the roof and prevent further damage while they waited for the insurance to come through, which didn’t happen until nearly three months after the storm.

Once the project was cleared for completion, the contractors tore out the old modified roof systems, installed new HD coverboard over the concrete substrate, installed Elastoflex™ SA V Polar Base sheet for the first membrane layer, and finished it with a cap layer of Elastoflex™ SA P Polar Cap

Elastoflex self-adhered products

Polyglass’ Elastoflex™ products are a series of high-quality elastomeric membranes designed for optimal long-term weathering performance, also complying with strict Miami-Dade County standards for hurricane protection.

Elastoflex™ SA V Polar Base membrane is a self-adhered elastomeric base ply, built with a high-performance reinforced fiberglass mat for maximum dimensional stability. The Elastoflex™ SA P Polar Cap is a granule surfaced roofing cap designed to withstand colder temperatures.

Given Maryland’s unique climate that is both hurricane-prone and subject to cold, snowy winters, F. A. Taylor & Son chose this combination of Elastoflex™ products to ensure the new roof would have long-term all-weather protection. Both Elastoflex™ membranes feature the patented ADESO® Dual-Compound Self-Adhered Technology for easy self-adhered application.

Polyglass offers a diverse product line of innovative roofing solutions designed to accommodate a wide range of challenges. To learn more about our products, contact us here
