Message from the NWIR Chair, Jennifer Stone

NWIR Letter from Chair
April 14, 2019 at 5:03 p.m.

Jennifer Stone provides updates on the success of the second NWIR Day at the International Roofing Expo®.

You can either watch her video message here or enjoy the transcript below.

Hi ladies. This newsletter is packed with information from National Women in Roofing Day. We had such a huge success and instead of writing a letter I wanted to just talk to you all quickly about the things we did that day. We had 220 women, we had a packed house, standing room only. It was incredible to see that many women there. We had our guest speaker, Sherry Holmes. She came in baby belly in tow, which was awesome to see, and she spoke about her experiences in our industry with credibility and kind of these pre-conceived notions that people had of her, which we all definitely related to.

Once she was finished, we spent some time recapping all the accomplishments of 2018 and all of the women that put in their hard work and efforts to accomplish those goals for education, mentoring, recruitment, retaining and networking with women. We also had come awesome sessions and breakouts. This year we had our first ever hands on training, which the women loved, and we'll be doing much more of that next year. We had speed mentor dating, which had a one on one opportunity for people to have a conversation and ask the questions that they were looking to get answered. We had council sessions, all sorts of breakout sessions. We also heard from Purple Purse, which is a pilot program under our recruitment committee. Michelle Boykin heads up that program.

We had them come in and talk and lots coming out this year for that. Really excited. Again, the newsletter is packed with stuff, pictures, stories, the Seattle Council all went out and got tattoos together. I mean, when women gather magical things happen, connections are made. We're working together, we're making a difference in our industry, make sure you check out the newsletter.

A couple more things before I say goodbye: Upcoming is Roofing Day in Washington, D.C. There's never been a more important time for women to show representation in the trades to be able to make an impact. Check out the National Women in Roofing link and register today for our women's luncheon. The speakers and the mentorship for that luncheon is going to be very powerful. This is Jennifer Stone. I have the great honor and privilege of being the Chair this yeah and you can reach out to me anytime. We're all in this together. We're better together.
