The Many Faces of Tyvek – The Bottom Line is that It’s About Protection

SEP - ProdSvc - DuPont - The many faces of Tyvek
September 23, 2017 at 2:30 p.m.

Watch Operation Build to learn how Tyvek makes an impact For Greater Good™.

Operation Build visits a jobsite in Wilmington, North Carolina to learn more about DuPont™ Tyvek®, how it’s used in the building industry and they discover some other applications along the way to help you understand how the product is making an impact For Greater Good™.

The video begins by visiting Kevin Boyette, construction manager for Bill Clark Homes, to learn why they chose DuPont Tyvek as their house wrap. Boyette says they decided to switch to only using Tyvek over 10 years ago because it’s a top brand that delivers the best performance.  It demonstrates their commitment to building a quality home.

Laura Dwyer, Global Leader, DuPont™ Tyvek® Building Knowledge Center, explains that putting Tyvek® house wrap on a house is like putting a windbreaker on the outside. She said that it keeps the air and moisture from getting into the envelope. Once you prevent air and moisture from getting in, it allows the insulation to do its job, leading to improved energy efficiency.

Dwyer explained that all Tyvek products are designed to prevent air and water from getting into the building envelope and that includes the roof now as well. DuPont™ recently introduced Tyvek® Protec™ underlayments to provide protection under the roofing material.

DuPont invented Tyvek 50 years ago and has been installing it on homes for 35 years. The company has a network of 165 specialists in North America whose job it is to train installers to ensure the products are being installed properly.

You might not be familiar with all of the products and industries that rely on Tyvek®.  Lori Gettlefinger, Global Communications and Brand Leader – DuPont™ Tyvek®, explains how Tyvek is used many products including envelopes, banners, amusement park wristbands, packaging, car and boat covers and much more. She explains that what they are really proud of it the fact that it’s all about protection.  Tyvek® is used on apparel to provide chemical protection for industrial workers, it’s used to protect workers in disaster cleanup situations and is featured in Hazmat suits.

Tyvek allows DuPont™ to be able to protect everything from people’s homes to helping employees be able to go home safely after work. Gettlefinger says that at Tyvek® we “enable people to worry less, so they can focus on greater things For Greater Good™.”
