Malarkey Roofing Products®, the leader in sustainable, performance roofing shingles and member of Holcim Building Envelope, has acquired property in Franklin, Indiana, to build a 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and warehouse on a 135-acre campus. The company expects to break ground on the new facility later this year, which will begin producing residential roofing shingles on two shingle lines by mid-2026.
Dale Rushing, president: “Malarkey Roofing Products appreciates the support we’ve received from the city of Franklin and is committed to being a good neighbor, offering genuine career paths, not just entry-level positions to the area. Franklin offers strategic logistical advantages, a skilled labor market and a community environment that aligns with our operational goals. Our new facility will expand our manufacturing capacity and enable us to produce more sustainable roofing shingles for homes across North America.”
The new plant will generate approximately 200 jobs, providing significant economic growth through business opportunities and increased tax revenues for Franklin.
Steve Barnett, mayor of Franklin: “Franklin is an attractive, strategic location for businesses nationwide. Malarkey’s decision to produce high-performance, sustainable roofing here is great news for our city and the entire region. We are grateful for their investment and look forward to many partnerships in the future.”
The plant will offer a range of positions from entry-level to skilled roles, providing diverse opportunities for the local workforce. The company emphasizes creating a pathway for career advancement within operations, highlighting the potential for long-term employment and professional growth. Malarkey offers competitive benefits, the majority of which are paid by the company and a competitive 401(k) with a high matching contribution.
Malarkey is also investing in substantial infrastructure improvements that will benefit the entire community of Franklin. This includes upgrades to roads, utilities and public services, enhancing local economic activities and supporting future community development. For example, the facility will be serviced by both rail lines and truck routes, minimizing impacts to local traffic.
Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Malarkey operates facilities in South Gate, California; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Williamsport, Maryland. While products are available in much of the U.S. and Canada, the new plant in Indiana will expand the company’s presence in the Midwest and the East Coast.
