Making a Difference Off The Roof

A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply employees give back by volunteering at the food bank, packing 2,683 meals for the hunger. 

'Tis the season of giving, and nowhere is that more apparent than in roofing, where giving back to the community is a pillar of the industry’s culture. Roofers deliver care and protection to the community on the roof, but A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply is going above and beyond to make a difference off the roof too.  

Recently A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply employees volunteered at the food bank, where we sorted and packed canned goods to for the Northern Illinois food bank and Feeding America. In just two hours of the shift, employees packed 3,220 pounds of food!  

Feeding America is a nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs. They provide food and support to over 40 million people annually. Their programs help provide meals to children, seniors, families and survivors of natural disasters. 

In the United States, one in nine people struggles with hunger. While the Coronavirus pandemic has impacted thousands of people in a myriad of ways, it has also brought into the forefront the hunger issue in the U.S. 54 million people may face hunger in the U.S. during 2020, including 18 million children. 

The Northern Illinois food bank serves 13 counties in Illinois. They rely on donors, volunteers and community partners to uphold their mission and vision for "no one to be hungry in northern Illinois.” According to a 2014 food study done by Northern Illinois food bank and Feeding America, "The Northern Ilinois Food Bank serves more than 71,000 people each week." 

It was such a rewarding and fun day. There is nothing like the feeling of helping others in your community!
