Editor's note: The following is the transcript of a live interview with Shane Norman of Malco Tools. You can read the interview below or listen to the podcast.
Intro: Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Roofers Coffee Shop sound stage. My name's Karen Edwards, and we are live at the Florida Roofing Expo down here in Kissimmee.
Shane Norman: Yeah.
Karen Edwards: And I am sitting with Malco Tools. I love talking about tools. I'm sure Heidi's a little bit jealous, because she loves tools. So I'm lucky that we get to have this conversation.
Karen Edwards: Would you introduce yourself to everyone and tell us what you do there at Malco?
Shane Norman: Yeah. Hello everyone. My name is Shane Norman. I am a product manager at Malco Tools and I oversee our portfolio of roofing, siding and gutter tools.
Karen Edwards: Okay. And now the Florida Roofing Show has a lot of metal, right?
Shane Norman: Yes.
Karen Edwards: There's a lot of metal here. There's a lot of metal that gets installed in Florida as well, because it's such a great product. And you guys specialize in the tools to make working with metal easier?
Shane Norman: Yeah, absolutely. So this year at the Florida Roofing Show, we are definitely highlighting all of our tools that are specifically designed to handle standing seam metal roof installs, along with any other type of fabrication that the trade pros might have to do on site for metal bending, creating open and closed hems, definitely geared more towards that metal side of our business. Yeah.
Karen Edwards: So what's in your booth? Do you have what kind of goodies?
Shane Norman: Yeah. Yeah.
Karen Edwards: Because we want to see, touch, feel, all that stuff.
Shane Norman: Absolutely. So we want to invite everybody to come and visit our booth. It's booth number 1734, over by the food court. And there you can see we're doing live demos of some new products that we've launched in the last 12 months, and we're really excited to get in front of trade pros and some of the industry experts alike.
Shane Norman: And yeah, so come and stop on over. We're going to be bending up our own standing seam panels along with showing you how to use our brand new seamer that seams inch or inch and a half metal seam panels. More for that residential, 24-gauge type materials.
Karen Edwards: Yeah.
Shane Norman: And then we have some exciting stuff to talk about too that's coming down the pipeline here in the very near future, so.
Karen Edwards: Can you give us a sneak preview?
Shane Norman: Sure. Yeah. So along that same line of thought, we are going to be launching a two-inch version of our seamer and cutter here this summer yet.
Karen Edwards: Oh, nice.
Shane Norman: So now an actual power-assisted seamer. So you can use your drill that you're going to have on your job site regardless, and then now you can do more of that commercial panel, that two inch profile with that tool.
Karen Edwards: Now, I have to ask if you have a favorite tool.
Shane Norman: Oh, there's so many, Karen. So Malco's been in business for 75 years, so we definitely focus on providing a really high quality experience for our trade pros. And all of our tools exemplify that. So we do have power assisted tools, so different tools you can use to quickly cut metal or flashing or any type of just general construction type materials. And then we do not just metal roofing, so we have a whole line of HVAC tools that cross over into that space. And then we get into siding, gutter installation, all-encompassing type tool brand.
Karen Edwards: One of the things that I love about Malco is your program for students.
Shane Norman: Yeah.
Karen Edwards: The Head of the Class, I think it's called. It was in the fall, maybe? Or did it just happen now?
Shane Norman: Yeah. Yeah, we do that year over year.
Karen Edwards: Okay.
Shane Norman: We really want to try to help support those trade pros that are entering in all the various trades. And we think that's a really good way for us to get in front of those new trade professionals and get to know Malco, and we definitely try to be in touch with that end customer as much as possible.
Karen Edwards: Yeah. Yeah, it's a great program. There's information on our website. Malco has a directory on Roofers Coffee Shop.
Shane Norman: Yeah.
Karen Edwards: So if you can't make it to the show and see the tools and see them in action or meet Shane, you can go to their directory on our website, and it has links to how to contact them and information out there.
Shane Norman: Yeah.
Karen Edwards: Yeah.
Shane Norman: Yeah, absolutely.
Karen Edwards: Wow. So it was great. Thank you for being here and for sharing with us.
Shane Norman: Yeah.
Karen Edwards: I'm going to try to get by, maybe when I go grab some food and see some of those tools in action.
Shane Norman: Perfect. All right.
Karen Edwards: So stay tuned, because the show goes till 5:00 today and we're here tomorrow as well. So if you do come out to the show, be sure to see those tools and check them out. And again, if you can't make it, just visit the directory on Roofers Coffee Shop and then you can get in touch with them there.
Outro: And stay tuned, because we are going to be broadcasting live throughout the day. And be sure to subscribe, follow us, ring the bell so you don't miss anything and we'll see you next time.
