Sometimes the right job just comes along, and it feels like it’s meant to be. At least that’s been Michael Hunter’s experience in the apprentice program for Weatherproofing Technologies Incorporated (WTI), a subsidiary of Tremco CPG. He joined as an apprentice in June 2021 and is quickly moving through his four-year apprenticeship as a roof inspector. We recently had a chance to sit down with him to discuss the program in more detail and see why he hopes to continue a long career with WTI.
He joined WTI directly out of high school and says he wasn’t entirely sure he would like roofing at first. “I like [the apprentice program] because you get to learn about the different roof types and see them for yourself. And there are so many different types of roofs, whether it’s metal, TPO, single ply or EPDM.”
Focusing on commercial roofing, he’s had the opportunity to travel across the country and work in different environments than he’s used to. He says, “I just got back from Massachusetts, so it was neat driving in that traffic, and I got to see Boston. Before that trip, I went to Virginia, Colorado, North and South Carolina and Georgia.”
While traveling is probably his favorite thing about the program so far, he’s also really liked learning about the various roofing systems and Tremco products. He says his favorite is probably the TPO system – not only does it look really nice on top of the roof, but it also utilizes cool roof technology, reducing the overall temperature of the roof with its white coating. The TremSEAL Pro product has exceptional UV resistance to help ensure a long performance life.
Michael hopes to move up in the company after his apprenticeship and says both his dad and brother have recently joined the WTI family. For anyone looking at an apprenticeship, he highly recommends the program and continues to be impressed by the benefits available to him.
