The National Slate Association (NSA) is excited to promote the use of natural slate within building projects at the American Institute of Architects Expo this June 5-8, 2024, in Washington D.C. With many synthetic imitation products calling themselves slate, it’s important to educate and increase awareness that natural slate, a metamorphic rock, is still available on the market. The NSA will be demonstrating cutting and working with slate, provide information on the newly released CAD drawings for slate details, and hand out technical bulletins to educate their audience. The more architects are aware of the tools that the NSA provides to specify and design with the finest roofing material available, the better off the industry will be.
The AIA Conference on Architecture and Design is the nation’s leading expo that connects architectural decision makers looking for technical expertise, new products and project solutions. Network with like-minded individuals, share your knowledge, gain exposure and find out-of-the-box solutions to the industry’s most pressing issues. About the National Slate Association (NSA)
Early in 2014, the NSA met in Florida to discuss and define who we are and what we stand for. The last time this happened was in 2002, in Saratoga, New York. Before that, in Bomoseen, Vermont, 1922. Like all the best ideas, the answer was ultimately very simple: to promote slate in North America, and to promote the highest standards of materials and installation. This Purpose Statement was achieved after much discussion, a dialectic that reflected a deep respect for the tradition and history of slate, while looking to ignite a new fervor for a national heritage that has value and relevance to the future.
