Lack of Protection Can Tarnish Your Brand

ICP Lack of Protection
September 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

By Cole Stanton, Director of Education and AED Specification, ICP Group.

Protecting customers’ property as well as the health and safety of occupants is more important than ever for contractors in light of the pandemic.

You spend your dollars promoting your brand and to build awareness in your solid and trustworthy reputation. The last thing that you would likely expect to ruin your reputation is showing up on a jobsite or at a customer’s facility or worse yet – their home, without protecting the building and its inhabitants during and after the project.

With the coronavirus making headlines every day, customers are going to be extra sensitive to the precautions that your crews are taking to ensure their health and safety. The following tips can help you reassure them that you are being extra careful to their needs.

In finished spaces:

  • Wear booties or shoe covers to reduce dirt and dust

  • Mask off, place tacky mats and boot wash stations at worksite access points, and use drop cloths when painting, drywalling, etc. to prevent spills or drips

  • Move occupants out of the building when spraying foam and base re-entry on the manufacturer’s recommendations

  • Consider moving air to create negative pressure in the immediate work area, and vent outside to direct particulates away from adjacent spaces

In both finished and on unfinished areas:

  • Wear a mask and appropriate gloves. From preplanning meetings to site visits, a mask not only protects those around you but shows respect and instills trust.

  • Never spray disinfectants indiscriminately and follow EPA/CDC guidance that discourages unproven technologies such as ozone, ultraviolet lights and any treatment that promises to prevent viruses for any length of time after application. There are no virustatic preventatives

  • Disinfect every doorknob, side rail, piece of equipment and room that you touch or work in. This means everything – every panel you open, every piece of equipment you touch!

  • Send quotes or estimates digitally and do not require physical signatures

ICP Group offers the products contractors need to thoroughly clean and disinfect every work site, tool, vehicle, office and equipment.
