Karl Stevens Obituary

Karl W. Stevens, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully January 25, 2023. He was born on September 7, 1937, to Karl and Jenice Stevens of Norfolk, VA.

Karl graduated from Maury High School in 1955. In 1957 he joined the United States Navy and proudly served for four years. After being discharged, he continued his education at Old Dominion University, graduating with a bachelor degree of business administration. In 1965 Karl married Carolyn L. Nichols. They Shared a wonderful life together for 57 years.

Beginning at the young age of 14, Karl started working part time for his father at Stevens & King Roofing Company. In 1970 he took over the business, eventually changing the name to Stevens Roofing Corporation. He was the proud owner and President for 46 years, retiring in 2016. In 1988, Karl was inducted into the Virginia Association of Roofing Professional's Hall of Fame and served as President for the organization.

When not working, Karl enjoyed traveling, going to Walt Disney World, and above all spending time with and caring for his family, especially his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Carolyn Stevens; children, Todd Stevens (Jennifer), Jill Agnes (Matthew), and Melissa Price (Nicholas); and sisters, Kathy Duncan and Carol Higgins (Charles). Karl was an amazing "Granddaddy" to Megan Agnes, Tyler Agnes, Madeline Price, Allison Price, Brooke Stevens, and Eric Stevens. He was a true family man and will be greatly missed!

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 28, from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home Chesapeake, with a funeral service immediately following with Pastor Kevin Ritter officiating. Committal services will be held on Sunday at 1:00pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (www.chkd.org) or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (www.nationalmssociety.org). Express condolences to the family at www.altmeyerfh.com.
