Investing in Employee Development and Education is Critical to a Company’s Success

Trent Cotney Education for Employees
May 28, 2019 at 10:40 a.m.

RCS Influencer Trent Cotney says that his company strongly believes in employee education and provides ample opportunities for learning.

At Cotney Construction Law, we pride ourselves on continuing education for our employees by providing various learning opportunities.  Not only do we offer seminars on professional proficiency but also on the marketing and business development of our lawyers. Training opportunities include:

  • Monthly lunch and learns on legal and administrative topics
  • The Mentorship Program where a senior attorney is paired with a junior lawyer to act as a sounding board;
  • Marketing training on how to promote yourself and the firm;
  • Customer Service training on how to provide VIP treatment to every firm client or potential client;
  • Entrepreneurship program which allows lawyers to learn about the business of running a successful law firm; and
  • Participation in a variety of outside continuing education opportunities and conferences.

In addition to the offerings above, we also have an internal training program, CCL University, catered to train young lawyers and their senior counterparts who are looking to refine their skills and stay up-to-date on changes within the law that affect the construction industry. Each course consists of various modules to help attorneys gain expertise in a particular area of the law. Participating attorneys are required to attend seminars, read case law pertaining to the topic and pass an exam for each module. One unique aspect of this program is that it allows attorneys to learn and apply their new knowledge in real-time. CCL University serves as an expedited path for our attorneys to defend roofers and other industry professionals.

We believe it is critical to invest in employee training and development. Not only does it help retain talent, but training will result in savings in the long-run. Well-trained employees are motivated to perform better and more efficiently and are generally happier with their jobs.

Trent Cotney is the founder of Cotney Construction Law, specializing in construction law. See Trent’s full bio here.
