Good morale and job satisfaction can start with something as simple as an acknowledgement, and making sure your business runs at an optimum level often starts with employee engagement. Try these tips to spur employee enthusiasm and productivity.
Flex Schedules: Depending on the type of work your employees do, your company could offer this year-round or during the holidays. Having enough workers is extremely important, so post a calendar where employees can arrange additional time with family.
Employee Breakfast (don’t forget the coffee!): This isn’t something you have to offer daily, but a few times a month doesn’t hurt. Coffee, however, can be worth its weight in gold. Apply liberally and don’t buy the cheap brand.
Important Days or Holidays: A simple Happy Birthday card or cake can do wonders for celebrating employees’ birthdays and work anniversaries. Add some fun throughout the week by celebrating fun holidays. For instance, January 23 is National Pie Day. Surprise the office with a several pies and top it off with ice cream.
Employee Recognition: Start an employee of the month program or let other employees nominate someone they think is going above and beyond. Reward those hard workers with gift cards or a free lunch.
Lunches with the Boss: Take time to chat with your staff. Schedule occasional lunches to show you’re interested in your team.
Welcome Ideas: This can be an extremely powerful way to empower employees and help your bottom line. They’re experts and you should let them prove it. Use a survey tool to ask anonymous questions about what you should start, stop or continue. The results may be surprising, but don’t become defensive at the results. Instead, look for solutions.
Provide Opportunity: Continuing education, certification classes, special training, etc. If this applies to your business, it can be a great way to improve morale by making employees feel like they have a responsibility to the business.
