Insight to the Roofing Alliance

Roofing Alliance Insight to the Roofing Alliance
May 26, 2024 at 3:00 a.m.

By Yvette Cruz.

Learn how the industry came together to form the foundation of the NRCA and how they are making a difference in the industry.

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips, featuring Kelly Van Winkle and Alison LaValley of the Roofing Alliance, Heidi J. Ellsworth discusses with them the importance of the Alliance and how it came to be.  Kelly and Alison both have vast knowledge and training in the roofing industry. Kelly has a long family history in roofing, going as far back as the Great Depression. She is now the CEO of King of Texas Roofing Company in Grand Prairie, Texas and serves as the president of the Roofing Alliance. Alison has spent thirty-five years working with National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA). She is the vice president of strategic partnerships for NRCA and is the executive director for the Roofing Alliance. Together, these two extraordinary women are working hard to elevate the industry.

“A number of prominent roofing contractors, people that were very, very active in the NRCA got together and determined that there was a bigger need,” Kelly says, explaining how the Alliance formed. “There was a bigger need to serve the industry in general, to do good for people that worked within the industry, that worked for these roofing companies.”

Having formed in 1996, the Roofing Alliance recently celebrated a successful twenty-five years of giving back. The Alliance is a committed association made up of roofing contractors, manufacturers, distributors, suppliers and other industry professionals. Everyone involved with the Alliance devotes not only their time, but also money to help advance the industry. Alison states, “This group has committed more than $14 million to fund research and education and scholarships that really are enhancing the success of the industry, preparing it and securing it for its future, which is so important.”

The Roofing Alliance also honors and praises workers in the industry, who make it a wonderful community. Alison explains, “When you get into this industry, you don't leave. And it's because of the people. They become not only colleagues, but mentors and mostly friends.”

What they hope to achieve for the future of the alliance and in the industry isn’t change itself, but an influence to help care for businesses and education within it.
