Scott was a third generation Roofer/Contractor whose family business, Howard Roofing, started in the Las Vegas valley in 1959. The family sold the company in 1986, and Howard stayed on with successor Universal Roofing/Bryant Universal, where he was a project manager, a unit manager for Las Vegas, a regional manager and eventually general manager. On Nov. 1, 1996, he and Dennis Conway bought the assets of NRC Universal and renamed it Commercial Roofers Inc.
Scott’s life was marked by a service for others that was paired with endless generosity. Scott was a trustee with the Oral Roberts University, in Tulsa, OK where he received his Bachelor’s degree in business, where he was later acknowledged as 2014 Alumnus of the Year. Scott was Board Treasurer for Convoy of Hope, so inspired & touched by their work that he committed his time & energy to traveling worldwide impacting countless lives through his service with the organization.
Among his industry involvement throughout his lifetime, Scott was an active member of Reflective Roof Coatings Institute, National Roofing Contractors Association, Western States Roofing Contractors Association, Vegas Chamber of Commerce, Nevada Roofing Contractors Association and Nevada Contractors Association. He was a graduate of the Chamber of Commerce’s “Leadership Las Vegas” program, Chairman of the Las Vegas City Impact Foundation, Treasurer of the Las Vegas Ferrari Club and has served in the past as a Trustee, Chairman and Treasurer for the Desert Southwest chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and a Trustee of the Las Vegas Metro Police Neighborhood Watch.
Scott lived a full life – he loved the adventure of traveling with his family, had a passion for fast cars, loved being active—cycling, basketball, boating, & scuba diving were his favorite activities. Scott’s greatest life accomplishment was his amazing family, marrying his beautiful wife Janet Howard in 1982 & going on to have three beautiful children, Angela Hutchins, Lindsay Howard, William Sean Howard, and “adopted” daughter Kapka Prunty. He was best Papa to his grandchildren, Cassidy, Dylan, Parker, Christian and Lincoln.
