By Chicago Metal Supply.

With the addition of an insulated metal roof and wall panels on any structure, a homeowner or building owner can see immediate improvements in durability and energy efficiency.

Looking for ways to improve energy efficiency in a home or building? If it seems like the air conditioning or heat have been on overload, it may indicate a lack of insulation in the roof or walls. While there are different ways to add insulation, one of the gold standards in the industry is insulated metal roof and wall panels.

The consistency of insulated metal roof and wall panels

Insulated metal roof and wall panels are specifically designed to provide insulation to a building. They’re composed of two strips of metal, which are separated by a thick, dense piece of foam. This foam does a terrific job of resisting heat and cold, keeping the interior of the corresponding building at a comfortable temperature regardless of the weather conditions.

Metal roof and wall panels are installed in a way that allows them to seamlessly expand and contract with heat and cold. This helps prolong their lifespan, allowing them to provide top notch insulation for years to come.

The benefits of insulated metal roof and wall panels

While insulated metal roof and wall panels most certainly enhance the insulation of a building, they do much more than just that. Some of the main benefits include the following:

Fire resistance

Because their exteriors are made entirely out of metal, and because metal is highly resistant to fire, insulated metal roof and wall panels are almost entirely fire resistant. Therefore, should they catch a spark, it is highly unlikely that it would lead to a fire.

This isn’t necessarily true of materials like asphalt shingles, cedar shakes and drywall, which could potentially catch fire after coming in contact with a spark. To protect a property from fire as effectively as possible, it’s strongly recommended that metal roof and wall panels are installed.

Durability

When it comes to roofing materials, asphalt shingles generally last around 25 years, and cedar shakes generally top out at around 40 years. Insulated metal roof panels, on the other hand, can last 70, 80 and sometimes even as long as 100 years. In short, metal roof panels are some of the most durable roofing materials in existence.

If you’re looking for a true set it and forget it option — one that doesn’t require much in terms of maintenance — then insulated metal roof and wall panels are a great choice.

Low maintenance requirements

Though insulated metal roof and wall panels require some maintenance, the amount of maintenance they require is much less than many other common materials. In the vast majority of cases, they just need to be cleaned from time to time.

This is in contrast to materials like asphalt shingles and cedar shakes, which require much more frequent replacements and upkeep.

Low cost

You might think that metal roof and wall panels would be expensive, particularly when compared to lower end materials like asphalt, cedar and drywall; and, yes, when you look at their listed price, they are.

However, when it comes to the total value offered, there’s no doubt about it: insulated metal roof and wall panels are a low-cost option. Because they last so long, and because they require such little maintenance, these panels provided tons of value for the price. Home and building owners may pay more initially for insulated metal roof and wall panels, but they'll be paying less in the long run.
