IB Roof Systems™, a leading provider of PVC roofing solutions for flat or low-sloped roofs, announces the first-ever documented carbon-neutral roofing membranes. Additionally, IB Roof Systems developed a carbon-neutral calculator using studies from the U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, EPA, Environmental consultants and their EPD.
The calculator is the first ever to document carbon neutral benefits of IB Roof reflective membranes during their warranted lifetime. IB is poised for the future of roofing sustainability and encourages contractors to use the calculator to help clients choose IB reflecting membrane to save energy and reduce carbon within the warranted lifetime of the roof.
The calculator allows roofing professionals and customers to enter the state, city, membrane color, roof area and cents per kWh. The output provides the total CO2 emission savings, energy savings and cost savings. It also compares IB Roof Systems with dark asphalt roof systems so decision-makers can see the difference in savings.
With the savings in mind, it shows the positive effects of using the IB Roof systems. On a 10,000-square-foot roof in Arizona, using white PVC reflective membranes, the CO2 emission savings are equivalent to 125 metric tons of CO2, which equals over 1,800 trees planted. Contractors can share the years until the roof is carbon neutral and years of avoided carbon emissions.
"We wanted to provide the answers needed around energy savings and a roof's carbon footprint when decision-makers decide on a new roof," stated Jason Stanley, IB Roof CEO. "IB is committed to roofing sustainability and helping contractors and building owners understand that reflective PVC roofing membrane is the proven choice to save energy, make a difference for the environment and support their commitment to sustainability."
IB utilized government-funded studies and verification from environmental consultants to formulate and create the energy savings/carbon emission calculator. The energy-saving calculations were derived from the U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, including the EPA electrical intensity grid by state, and carbon emission savings and carbon-neutral calculations derived from the Chemical Fabrics and Film Association (CFFA) Environmental Product Declaration (according to ISO 14025:2006 and ISO 21930:2017). Formulas and calculations were verified by Good Company, a sustainability consulting firm in Eugene, OR.
