How to Embrace Effective Change

Better Employees Effective Change
August 22, 2021 at 6:00 a.m.

By Cass Jacoby, RCS Reporter.

In the first lesson of his video series, Effective Supervisor, Eduardo Figueroa demonstrates that the key to leading change within your business is by involving the team.

In Effective Supervisor, Eduardo Figueroa offers comprehensive, flexible and user-friendly courses that teach employees how to become better leaders. Designed for companies that want to develop their Hispanic leaders, this program features short video-lessons and exercises that are in Spanish with English subtitles with bilingual handouts, exercises, and tests.

In this first lesson, you learn about how to lead a change within your business. Eduardo discusses the importance of accepting change rather than resisting it, and how learning to take advantage of the opportunities that arise from the change and adapting makes for a better workplace.

Eduardo starts the lesson by underlining the importance of recognizing a need to change when it comes to establishing an effective change. If you don’t recognize a need to grow to fix problems, or refuse to be honest with ourselves about the need to try something different, change will not come easy. This is also why it is so important to collaborate with your team to reach a goal together to successfully enact a change. This means that everyone will have to embrace the change to develop that team.

Changes exist in technology advancement, equipment, process, systems, leadership styles, etc. Eduardo reminds us that change is normal and every business requires constant change to avoid becoming stagnant and ultimately failing. He tells us that effective supervisors and leaders need to know how to lead change successfully, as this skill helps to reduces stress and conflict in the workplace and creates a more positive and cohesive environment.

Eduardo gives strategies for implementing permanent change. To give ourselves a better vision of what needs to change and where adjustments or adaptations need to happen, Eduardo asks us to think about where your company is now and where it needs to be.

He also suggests obtaining input from any involved department as they will know their strengths and limitations. Ultimately, these are the people who will make the change happen, so make sure to ask for their honest opinion and take their straight-forward input to find the best solution. Eduardo stresses that communicating your plan and why you are implementing it will help your team commit to making the change and understand why it must happen.

After collecting all possible ideas and getting everyone's feedback, you will have a clear objective and goal to work towards. Make your action plan with the reason to change as the main goal, keeping an open mind to solutions that can work better. Measurements like benchmarks and deadlines should be a part of your plan so you may measure your results.

Eduardo reminds us to recognize everyone’s efforts in the change. Let your team know that you value their effort in the change process and they will be much more engaged in making a successful change.
