Hail storms come through your area in the middle of the night. The next morning your phones are ringing. Calls from past customers who need storm damage repair work. New customers begging for help with their pock-marked roofs and missing shingles.
Mother Nature can be a roofer’s best friend… and worst enemy. Certainly the fury she unleashes brings the potential for many new jobs your way. However, it’s a chaotic time involving insurance adjusters, frustrated homeowners and overworked crews.
How can you make this situation just a bit easier on yourself and your customers? By helping them to never get in the same situation again.
“I’ve had customers install the exact same Class 4 asphalt shingle roof due to hail and still have to replace their roof a few years later when there was another hail event,” says John Rhoden with Rhoden Roofing, LLC out of Wichita, Kansas. “We respect their choice, but their neighbor homeowners down the street that upgraded to a DaVinci product did not have to replace their roof when the next hail storm hit.
“In the real world, not all Class 4 roofs are created equal. While golf ball sized hail will require a complete roof replacement for Class 4 asphalt shingles, it does not leave a mark on the DaVinci product.”
To stop the nightmare, Rhoden often recommends composite slate and shake DaVinci Roofscapes products to his customers. Made to withstand severe weather with a Class 4 impact rating, the synthetic tiles resist hail that often falls in his area.
While some homes with DaVinci roofing are fortunate enough to survive a Category 5 hurricane, the majority just need to handle Mother Nature’s general fury.
In the Kissing Camels community of 600 homes in Colorado Springs, homeowner Pam Lariviere was tired of replacing her real cedar shakes after multiple hail storms. She was also fed up with rising insurance rates. When Krueger Brothers Construction consulted with her about a DaVinci shake roof, she was all in.
“Hail and wildfire concerns in our area are driving many roofing changes,” says Michael Krueger, vice president of Krueger Brothers Construction. “We’re definitely seeing more communities and individual homeowners move away from old wood shake shingles to fire-resistant, impact-resistant composite roofing products.
“As an example, recently there was a huge hail storm in this area with three- to four-inch sized hail. This tore apart many real cedar roofs. The only roofs I saw unaffected by this storm were those made of steel or DaVinci composite roofing.
“The DaVinci product is a win-win for any homeowner replacing a roof in our area. They get a beautiful looking roof that can really stand up to our unpredictable weather conditions.”
When you’re ready to build your business with composite roofing, DaVinci is available with strong support. From individual technical assistance and installation training to customer service, the Kansas-based company makes it easy to transition your customers from previous roofing products to composite slate and shake.
“The support programs in place at DaVinci are straight-forward and impressive,” says Scott Kim, president of WGM Contracting out of Arlington, Virginia. “They’ve helped my company with everything from marketing and public relations to personalized color advice for my clients. This company works hard on every order, for every customer. Whether related to a storm project or a regular reroofing job, DaVinci is always a product that’s top-of-mind when I’m meeting with a customer.”
