Giving Back is the Right Thing to Do

RCS Influencer Mike Pickel says that his company lives every day with the philosophy of giving back when they have the opportunity.

At Texas Traditions Roofing, giving back is just part of who we are. We don’t think of it in terms of ‘cause marketing.’ Although our marketing director would probably disagree. We just give back because it’s the right thing to do. In fact, it’s one of our core values.

As a company, we have developed five core values:

  1. Put God first, family second

  2. Be brutally honest and accountable to each other

  3. Treat everyone with humility and respect

  4. Vastly exceed expectations

  5. Be the roofing expert

We live by these core values every day. We believe that God has blessed us in the success of our business, and He has empowered us to be able to give back to the community. Just as He empowered us, we empower our employees to make the call when they feel they want to be of service by giving back to someone in need.

RCS recently wrote an article about our Lead Roof Adviser Wes Strahan repairing an active duty veteran’s home at no cost.  After the repair was completed the homeowner, whose husband was actively serving in another part of the country while she was holding down the fort at home, sent a heartfelt letter thanking us for helping her.

She wrote, “I cannot tell you how overcome with emotion I was. It was quite profound for me, and I am so grateful for this. I truly am. I have never, ever had something like this happen to me. Ever. It just meant so much. I felt, essentially cared for at a time that was quite challenging for me. This goes far beyond the financial benefit of this, this was just so kind. It gave me a different perspective on the world as it is, in so many ways. Thank you.”

Reading that letter makes it all worthwhile. She went on to say we have inspired her to pay to forward in small ways like paying for meals behind her in the drive thru.

We don’t do it for attention or for marketing, though that is an added perk, we do it because it is the right thing to do.

Mike Pickel is co-founder of Texas Traditions Roofing. See his full bio here.
