What is National Women in Roofing (NWiR)? Founded by Shari Carlozzi, architectural sales manager for FiberTite, and our very own Heidi J. Ellsworth in 2016, NWiR is all about providing women with opportunities to grow, support one another and achieve new goals within the roofing industry. Being a volunteer-base organization, NWiR works hard to build relationships with industry professionals and networks at important roofing events to inspire others to join the cause.
One great way to get involved is through NWiR’s councils. According to NWiR’s website, these councils “Serve as a venue for members to connect regularly to exchange ideas, attend educational events and develop relationships to advance women within the roofing profession.” This is a great opportunity to connect and learn the latest roofing trends with like-minded people in your area. Because council meetings are smaller gatherings, you’re able to build stronger professional and personal relationships with people in your area.
The Oregon Council recently had their first annual open house, allowing people of the community to come and see what it’s like to be part of the council. Talking about roofing, events, giving back to the community and learning what’s new, it’s a great way to bring people together who want to advance the industry and also share what others can do to help support their dreams as roofing professionals.
There are more than 30 councils in the nation as of now. In places such as Hawaii, New Mexico and even Canada, NWiR is rapidly growing. If you don’t see your city or state on the list, there are always other options. From attending roofing events to creating a council of your own, NWiR makes it easy to connect with others and start your quest in the roofing industry.
