GCP Applied Technologies, a leading global provider of construction products technologies, donated their roof products in 2020 and 2021 to an emergency preparedness program in Lake Charles, Louisiana in preparation for a hurricane. The supply of roofing materials will now be put to use as residents begin to repair and rebuild homes impacted by Hurricane Ida.
“Hurricane Ida has caused unprecedented devastation, forcing thousands of people out of their damaged homes,” said GCP Product Management Leader Brian Chang. “Unfortunately, Louisiana is hit hard by storms too often. That is why we began donating our GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® roofing underlayment to the Louisiana community last year. They have kept it in storage so it is easily available for post storm repairs. We are now working with the community to get the roofing underlayments to the folks that need them as the high winds damaged so many roofs.”
GCP donated 460 rolls of their premium product, GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® fully-adhered roofing underlayment to the Lake Charles, Louisiana community. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has published recommendations for the use of fully-adhered roofing underlayments as an enhanced secondary water barrier for homes in both coastal and inland hurricane-prone areas.
The company has been donating GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® roofing underlayment to regions with increased exposure to hurricanes and storms since it was introduced in 1978. The fully-adhered roofing underlayment protects a homeowner's roof from the damaging effects of water intrusion due to wind-driven rain and provides quality, long term protection to keep families safe and dry.
