GAF Valdosta and Second Harvest provide thousands of meals to support community members affected by Hurricane Helene and Milton

GAF Valdosta and Second Harvest provide thousands of meals to support community members affected by Hurricane Helene and Milt
October 20, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.

Despite being affected by challenges following Hurricane Helene themselves, the GAF Valdosta employees came together to provide essentials to help families here locally and throughout the Southeast.

GAF, a Standard Industries company and North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, hosted a community service day to help Second Harvest of South Georgia, the leading hunger-relief organization in the region, provide disaster pantry boxes to support local community members and families affected by Hurricane Helene and Milton.

Joined by members of the Valdosta-Lowndes Development Authority, employees of GAF Valdosta made a significant impact at Second Harvest by:

  • Packing 1,200 boxes for their Senior Citizen program, providing a total of 39,600 meals.
  • Preparing 575 backpack bags, equating to 11,220 meals for the Hungry at Home program

GAF Valdosta employees’ efforts extended beyond Second Harvest as they chose to deliver surplus lunch food to LAMP, a local homeless shelter housing families and single adults who were displaced after Hurricane Helene.

“At GAF, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we live and work, and the team here from GAF-Valdosta showed remarkable dedication to the Valdosta-Lowndes community this week,” said Daniel Duston, plant manager at the GAF Valdosta facility. “Despite some of our employees still continuing to be affected by challenges following Hurricane Helene, our team came together to provide essentials to help families here locally and throughout the Southeast - that is something we take great pride in.”
