Almost 90% of Minnesota’s contractors cite lack of available construction workforce as a negative impact to their business in 2023. GAF Roofing Academy, in partnership with the local Roofers Union 96, is aimed to bridge that worker shortage gap by bringing the training to Minneapolis residents in GAF’s brand-new facility.
GAF, North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer and a proud employer in the Minneapolis community, hosted the inaugural GAF Roofing Academy, a free, national training program teaching the skills needed to enter the roofing trade, in its new training facility last month. GAF Roofing Academy aims to help individuals of any background, especially underrepresented or disadvantaged groups, including formerly incarcerated, transitioning military and more, build the necessary skills to get an entry-level position in the roofing industry and provides access to job opportunities from GAF’s national network of thousands of independent, certified contractors. The graduates also received an OSHA 10 and a GAF Roofing Academy certification.
