Tremco Roofing’s POWERply line of modified bitumen systems has a long history of exceptional performance; these four innovations improve waterproofing and durability, stop the spread of water and enable component tracking.
1 - GranuLock™ Surface Treatment
Granule retention is a key feature of all modified bitumen cap sheets. Factory-applied granules protect the modified asphalt from UV exposure, which is vital to the longevity of the roof membrane. Just as importantly, these granules help provide a fire-resistant surfacing for the roof system. Unfortunately, granule loss is common. The industry has adopted the test standard ASTM D4977 to measure granule retention as a quality control test and has set the criteria of a maximum loss of 2 grams per sample (approximately 7.7 pounds per one square roll).
Tremco’s granule retention performance is already among the industry’s best. Now with GranuLock™, granule retention has improved to an amazing 0.2 gram loss per sample, or about 0.77 pounds per roll! This treatment is practically invisible to customers, compatible with any final surface coatings or adhesives, and secures granules for long term roofing protection and resistance to fire.
2 - Extended Durability New Bitumen Blend
One major improvement in POWERply Endure Membrane durability results from our innovative new SBS modified bitumen blend. Adding two more polymers to the blend improves its high temperature resistance while not diminishing any other key property, such as low temperature flexibility. The result of this improved SBS bitumen blend is a membrane that is firmer under foot, resisting traffic damage, marring, and the wear and tear effects of long-term weathering.
These performance improvements were brought about by using a Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) and a Reactive Elastomeric Terpolymer (RET) to blend with and enhance the SBS modifier. While the resulting products exceed ASTM performance standards for SBS modified bitumen membranes, these membranes can still be matched into competitive specifications, which allows your clients to benefit from the improved performance that the POWERply Endure Membranes offer.
3- Anti-wick Reinforcing Fabrics
SBS modified bitumen membranes are prone to absorbing moisture into the cut edges, which can become entrapped. POWERply Endure Membranes incorporate an anti-wick fabric, solving another industry issue with a unique Tremco approach.
4- RooF-ID™ Identification Chips
Tremco Roofing is addressing the concern of identifying roofing materials after installation by incorporating a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip onto the back of every POWERply Endure MB roll. RooF-ID™ chips are resistant to the short-term effects of installation in cold or hot asphalt and long-term exposure on the roof. If information on a roll is needed, a technician walks and scans an area of the roof, then forwards the data from the RooF-ID chip to Tremco Roofing. The company cross references the data against their records; if any action is required, they relay it quickly and efficiently. The RooF-ID program is a no-cost extension of the Tremco Quality Control process.
POWERply Endure Membranes can be installed in a variety of hot and cold adhesives, and form exceptionally durable, waterproof roofs when paired with POWERply Endure BIO Adhesive. This cold process, 100% solids adhesive has virtually no odor and is fully cured and watertight within 24 hours of application, which can significantly reduce the length of many roofing projects. Its strong, durable bond provides excellent wind uplift resistance, withstanding forces up to 300 psf which is comparable to what a roof experiences during a hurricane.
