By Chelsea Oesch, Beacon Branch Manager and RCS Influencer.
Last year was just the beginning of Beacon Building Products Austin, TX locations starting a tradition for their teams. It was a fun and exciting 2019, full of surprises for the Beacon employees in Austin, TX. The branches started with flowers for Mother’s Day, steaks for Father’s Day, school supplies in August, Halloween candy in October and Kendra Scott gifts in December. The goal was to take a task off the plate of the employees and make them a hero at home. Employee engagement items have become a constant brainstorming project for Beacon branch management.
The Beacon branches started 2020 off with a bang in February with flowers and cards for Valentine’s Day, but soon after Valentine’s Day COVID-19 entered the picture across the whole world. With the challenges and business environment amidst COVID-19 the Austin branches knew it was going to be a challenge to pull off Mother’s Day 2020.
The Austin management team reached out to their vendors for support and the vendors rallied hard making Mother’s Day 2020 a reality. Within 48 hours of the call to vendors for help, the project was 100% funded. At first, I was in shock with how quick all of our vendors responded to our call for help. The vendors came through without any hesitation. It is a tough time for all businesses, but they showed that by supporting each other we can come out of this time stronger than before.
Mother’s Day 2019 started something bigger than just flowers in Austin, TX. The flowers have started to spread across other Beacon locations. The Beacon locations outside of Austin have seen the power of caring and they too have started their own traditions. In early March, Sheri Scott at our Beacon branch in White Plains, MD created care packages for truck drivers bringing in freight to their branch. It was because she heard stories of rest stops being closed and restaurants limiting access. It is stories like this that make me incredibly proud to a part of the Beacon Team.
Special thanks to our extraordinary vendors who helped sponsor the project in Austin for 2020:
· GAF
· CertainTeed
· Malarkey
· TAMKO
· Mid-States Asphalt
· Continental Materials
· Ross Manufacturing
· IPS
