Fate Intervenes to Get University of Illinois Arena a Liquid Applied Membrane Roof

Sika was in the right place to be the roofing solution the University of Illinois State Farm Arena was looking for. 

The University of Illinois’ State Farm Arena had been submitting proposals for a Liquid Applied Membrane (LAM) roof for a while before fate intervened. It just so happened that during a routine sales stop, the architect who informed Sika Corporation they were swamped trying to submit their final proposal for a LAM roof was actually talking to the national manager of Sika’s LAM Division and Sika’s Stadium/Arena Vertical Manager. From there, the architect immediately invited Sika reps into his office to show them a very steep-sloped, highly detailed roof in need of waterproofing but had to be completed in a short period of time. 

The system had to be a proven LAM that would meet the specifications and the owner’s requirements. At the time, there was only one manufacturer specified. Sika hit the ground running and  quickly gained the architect’s confidence in Sika’s RoofPro LAM history and capabilities. 

The Sika Team had a weekend, before meeting with the GC, Turner Construction, to review and modify the specifications to completely address the challenges of the elaborate roof on the State Farm Arena. Mock-ups that satisfied the requirements of the project were completed a week later. Sikalastic RoofPro was the right product for the job.
