Explore advancements in coil coating technology

Heidi J. Ellsworth welcomed Amanda Paterline from AkzoNobel to the RCS sound stage at the 2024 FRSA show to learn more about the latest advancements in coil coating technology. Amanda, the commercial marketing manager for AkzoNobel’s Coil and Extrusion business unit, shares her excitement about attending her first FRSA show and discusses the company’s latest innovations in coil coatings.  

AkzoNobel, a global paint and coatings company headquartered in the Netherlands, boasts a significant presence in North America. Amanda highlights the company's extensive operations, including manufacturing plants in Columbus, Ohio, Garcia, Mexico and an R&D site in Strongsville, Ohio. These facilities support AkzoNobel's progressive efforts in coil coatings. 

During the interview, Amanda showcases AkzoNobel's latest high-performing products, including the CERAM-A-STAR Select Frost line, launched in October. "It's a textured product, and a lot of our customers love Frost," she says, emphasizing the product's popularity and the improved warranty program and standardized color palette that come with the launch. This optimization ensures the products are readily available, enhancing efficiency in the value chain. 

Another standout product discussed is the Expressions print line, designed for board and batten metal sidewalls. Amanda notes its growing popularity due to its authentic wood grain effect. "Customers like the texture; it yields a more authentic look and feel," she explains, adding that samples of these products are available for attendees to explore at the AkzoNobel booth. 

Heidi and Amanda also delve into the importance of durability and protection in coil coatings, particularly in challenging environments like Florida. Amanda highlights the PVDF TRINAR product, renowned for its high performance in coastal regions. "Our warranty really attests to that; the color chalk and fade warranty is industry-leading," she states. AkzoNobel's Florida weathering program, featuring thousands of test panels, underscores the company’s commitment to demonstrating the long-term performance of its coatings.
