Ensure Your Spray Foam Job is Done Right the First Time

General Coatings Spray Foam Done Right

By Colin Sheehan, RSC Reporter.

Learn step-by-step instructions on implementing spray foam systems with these video playlists.

General Coatings Manufacturing’s short how-to videos provide step-by-step instructions on applying spray-foam to a variety of roof drains, penetrations, decks, systems, slopes and termination. Each video lasts less than one minute and features helpful animated visuals to guide you through the spray foam process.

In the first collection of videos, General Coatings Manufacturing Corp. demonstrates five different application methods of spray foam around various roof drains. These videos, while short, are packed with helpful information that will ensure your spray foam job is done right the first time.

The roof drains featured in these videos include:

  • Regular roof drain

  •  Overflow roof drain

  • Scupper drain

  • Roof drain replacement

  • Roof drain detail method B

The third video on the Roof Drain’s video list, Spray Foam Roof Detail – Scupper Drain, provides a close look at a parapet drainage scupper detailing, starting with the installation of the sheet metal scupper liner. Spray foam is soon applied with a tapered edge towards the scupper to ensure neat and direct drainage.

One of the best advantages of using spray foam for a roof drain is its ability to be tapered. A contractor can use the foam to customize slopes by raising or lowering levels where there is standing water to increase water drainage. This is an excellent way to eliminate ponding, which is found too often on commercial roofs and can cause a myriad of problems and shorten the life of a roofing system.

As far as commercial and flat roofing options go, spray foam roofs provide incredible durability and affordability. Spray foam roofing systems are uncomplicated and easy to install, maintain and repair. Put an end to detrimental standing water and watch General Coatings Manufacturing Corp.’s spray foam roof drain videos to see which application method is best for your customer’s roof.
