Education Breeds Success

Trent Cotney Educating Customers
September 5, 2019 at 6:00 a.m.

RCS Influencer Trent Cotney says that educating clients is a win for your customers and provides benefits to your own company as well.

Educating your customers about roofing not only benefits them but will also increase your company’s credibility by demonstrating commitment to your customer and the roofing industry.

At Cotney Construction Law, we think it is critical for clients to be knowledgeable about the roofing industry because it raises the standard of the industry. When everyone from the manufacturer to the contractor and customer are on the same page, the entire industry stands to benefit.

One way Cotney Construction Law helps customers become more educated is by encouraging them to get involved with roofing industry associations at the national, regional, and local level. Cotney Construction Law is a member of the National Roofing Contractors Association and serves as General Counsel to National Women in Roofing and National Slate Association. At the local level in Colorado, we are a member of the Colorado Roofing Association. These industry associations supply a platform to educate individuals in the industry through seminars and articles. For example, we recently gave a seminar at the Western Roofing Expo on immigration law and combating drug use in the roofing industry. We also write monthly articles for various associations on a broad range of topics so that industry professionals can stay up to date on current trends, technology, rules, and news.

Another way we help educate our clients is by providing resources on our website. For example, we provide articles on a wide range of resources including information on bonds, contracts, dispute resolution, employment, hurricane preparedness, immigration, insurance, liens, OSHA, and roofing. These resources allow our clients to gain access to a range of topics to help answer questions they may have, free of charge. Also, our social media accounts and newsletters include information about critical changes within the industry to alert contractors of the newest changes in laws that could affect them.

Here at Cotney Construction Law, we think it is crucial to be proactive, rather than reactive, when it comes to protecting your business; it is far easier to avert a problem before it happens than it is to correct issues after the fact. This is why educating our clients is so important. It allows them to get out in front of problems they may have with their project before those problems mature into a costly mess.

Besides knowing the current trends in the roofing industry, it is also crucial staying up to date on the laws. One moment you could be in compliance with industry standards, but suddenly a law goes into effect that leaves you at risk of fines or worse. This is one of the reasons why Cotney Construction Law provides education and resources through several mediums because we want individuals to avoid potential problems. We encourage anyone to follow us on social media, attend our lectures, or simply check out the resources on our website because education breeds success.

Trent Cotney is the founder of Cotney Construction Law, a law firm that specializes in roofing and construction law. See his full bio here.
